“Dockery Blues”
by Eric Kriss
Eric Kriss, in his book, Beginning Blues Piano writes:
“The blues developed between 1865 and 1900 in the rural American South. One of the most prolific centers of early blues activity was the Mississippi Delta region, extending from Memphis through towns like Natchez and Vicksburg.
“Three prominent blues guitarists, Charley Patton, Son House and Robert Johnson, spent time entertaining in the heart of the Delta, notably at Dockery Farms, a plantation established in 1895.
“Dockery Blues, named for this important blues center, captures the essence of the Delta guitar style in piano arrangement.”
